Method for eliminating anticomplementary activity in animal sera.
A method is described for removing the anticomplementary activity of sera by the addition of normal porcine serum. Results of sera taken from four animal species immunized with influenza, coxsackievirus, echovirus, and vaccinia viral antigens are presented.
متن کاملSuppressive effect of alcoholic liver disease sera on lymphocyte transformation.
The effect of alcoholic patient sera on in vitro lymphocyte transformation was studied using mitogen-induced uptake of (3)H-thymidine to measure blastogenesis. With pokeweed mitogen as the stimulus, transformation of normal lymphocytes in sera of alcoholics with either normal or fatty livers was not significantly different from that obtained in pooled human serum (PHS). However, in sera of pati...
متن کاملAntiglobulin factor in sera from patients with liver disease.
(1) An antiglobulin factor, non-neutralizable by human gamma-globulin, was demonstrated in sera of two patients with liver disease. (2) By absorption and elution techniques, two fractions were differentiated in a serum: one is reactive to rabbit antibody and the other seems cross-reactive to rabbit and human antibodies. (3) In double immunodiffusion test, the antiglobulin factor formed a precip...
متن کاملAnticomplementary, anticoagulatory, and serum-protein precipitating activity of sodium polyanetholsulfonate.
Sodium polyanetholsulfonate (SPS) at 7.8 mug/ml completely abolished complement-mediated hemolysis of 1:10 diluted fresh guinea pig and human serum; at least twice as much SPS was required to reduce complement activity in 1:2 diluted human serum. The coagulation of 90 and 20% human blood was inhibited by 250 and 125 mug of SPS per ml, respectively. When added to fresh human serum, SPS precipita...
متن کاملThe antiviral activity of Newcastle disease immune sera.
The diagnostic value of the hemagglutination inhibition test for Newcastle disease has been established for some years (Brandly et al., 1946). The question of the relationship of the hemagglutination inhibition activity (HI) of immune sera to virus-neutralizing activity (SN) or to the refractivity of the host to challenge infection is still one of both fundamental and practical importance. Data...
